What are the best neighborhoods in Charlotte NC? Sixteen well-known Charlotte neighborhoods, from Dilworth near Uptown to Ballantyne in the south, each with at least 10 home sales, sold at median prices from $359,899 in Hickory Grove to $1,984,050 in Myers Park from July through September 2026, according to Steve Jarrell, Team Lead of The Longleaf Group at eXp Realty, from Redfin Data Center figures for Redfin’s own neighborhood boundaries, updated October 7, 2026.
If you’re moving to Charlotte from out of state, there’s a good chance you expect “best neighborhood” to have one answer. It’s true that the popular lists agree on a few names: Myers Park, Dilworth and Ballantyne come up again and again. But those three sit far apart once you put numbers on them. In that same Redfin data, a square foot sold for $561.36 in Myers Park, about 8 minutes from Uptown with no traffic, and $244.21 in Ballantyne West, about 25 minutes out. The best neighborhood is the one whose trade fits your life.

Which are the best neighborhoods in Charlotte NC?
Sixteen Charlotte neighborhoods made the cut on Redfin’s Data Center figures for July through September 2026, and you can sort them by what you’d be buying.
The Short Answer
These 16 well-known Charlotte neighborhoods fall into five groups: intown Dilworth, Wilmore, Plaza Midwood and NoDa; established Myers Park, Eastover and Cotswold; the golf club neighborhoods of Quail Hollow, Raintree, Providence Country Club, Piper Glen Estates and Ballantyne Country Club; Ballantyne East and West; and Highland Creek and Hickory Grove for price. You choose mostly by trading drive time against price per square foot (Redfin Data Center, July 1 to September 30, 2026).
Key numbers, Charlotte NC (sales July through September 2026, Redfin Data Center; tax rate FY 2026-2027, Mecklenburg County; drive times OSRM, no traffic):
- Median sale price across the 16: $359,899 (Hickory Grove) to $1,984,050 (Myers Park)
- Price per square foot: $197.72 (Highland Creek) to $571.20 (Eastover)
- Most homes sold: Ballantyne West, 69 sales
- Fastest median days on market: Raintree, 36 days
- Drive to Uptown with no traffic: about 4.6 minutes (Wilmore) to about 29.1 minutes (Piper Glen Estates and Providence Country Club)
- Combined property tax rate inside Charlotte city limits, FY 2026-2027: 0.7857 per $100 of assessed value
The most expensive median here is about 5.5 times the least expensive, and the highest price per square foot is about 2.9 times the lowest. Distance from Uptown explains much of it, not all: Ballantyne Country Club, 27.2 minutes out, sold for $348.32 a foot, more than NoDa at 7.8 minutes.
When someone asks me for the best neighborhood in Charlotte, I answer with two questions: how often will you drive to Uptown, and how many square feet do you need? Those answers rule out most of these 16 neighborhoods before we see a house.

How were the 16 neighborhoods picked?
Redfin’s Charlotte-area file lists 158 neighborhoods with at least 10 closed sales from July 1 to September 30, 2026. These 16 are well-known Charlotte names plus South Charlotte’s golf club communities, and every one cleared that 10-sale bar. If you see a thin sample note, the row had 10 to 14 sales.
You won’t find three well-known names here. Redfin’s South End recorded only 3 sales. Uptown’s 51 sales took a median 143 days, a different market. And Redfin treats Southpark as a 419-sale district; our guide to the neighborhoods of SouthPark breaks it apart.

| Highland Creek | Value | 28.0 | 68 | $424,881 | $197.72 | 48 | -1.04% |
Where these numbers come from. The sales, price and days-on-market figures come from the Redfin Data Center neighborhood file for July 1 to September 30, 2026, on Redfin’s own boundaries. Drive times are OSRM estimates from each neighborhood’s OpenStreetMap center point to Trade and Tryon streets, with no traffic, so your rush hour runs longer. The tax rate is Mecklenburg County’s FY 2026-2027 chart.
“Mix-driven median” means the median and price per square foot moved more than 10 points apart from a year earlier, so this summer’s sales were a different set of houses. There, you’ll get a truer read from the per-foot change.
Which Charlotte neighborhoods are closest to Uptown?
Wilmore, Dilworth, Plaza Midwood and NoDa are the four of these 16 within 3 road miles of Uptown Charlotte, selling for $338.62 to $492.93 a square foot from July through September 2026 in Redfin’s data. What you give up is space per dollar: Wilmore, Plaza Midwood and Dilworth each cost more per foot than every neighborhood here beyond 6 road miles of Uptown.
NoDa
NoDa, short for North Davidson, sits east-northeast of Uptown, 2.9 road miles and about 7.8 minutes with no traffic. The UNC Charlotte Urban Institute calls it Charlotte’s “home-grown arts district”. The LYNX Blue Line (Charlotte’s light rail) extension opened in 2018; NoDa’s stop is the 36th Street Station at 434 E. 36th St.
Expect to pay about $338.62 a square foot here: Redfin counted 24 sales at a $549,346 median. Homes took a median 97 days to sell, the slowest of the 16, with 7.2 months of supply. Price per square foot rose 4.36%, from about $324; the median rose more, from about $480,000, on the mix of homes sold.
Wilmore
Wilmore is the closest of the 16 to Uptown: west-southwest, 1.7 road miles, about 4.6 minutes with no traffic. The City of Charlotte’s historic districts page calls it Dilworth’s sister neighborhood and one of Charlotte’s first streetcar suburbs, a local historic district since 2010.
You’ll pay more per foot for that closeness: $453.59 a square foot on 17 sales, at a $614,828 median and a 43-day median on market. Supply ran 2.1 months, the tightest of the 16. Price per square foot rose 2.88%, from about $441, while the median fell from about $700,000 on a different mix.
Plaza Midwood
Plaza Midwood sits east-southeast of Uptown, 2.2 road miles and about 6 minutes with no traffic. The city designated it a local historic district in 1992 and calls it the historic district with the most varied architecture. The Plaza Midwood Neighborhood Association maintains a community dog park.
Plaza Midwood’s 41 sales came in at a $963,980 median and $456.93 a square foot, over 61 median days. Both measures sat a little under a year earlier: the median by 4.56%, from about $1,010,000, and price per square foot by 3.69%, from about $474.
Dilworth
Dilworth sits south-southwest of Uptown, 2.0 road miles and about 5.7 minutes with no traffic. The City of Charlotte says it was founded in the 1890s as Charlotte’s first suburb, linked to downtown by Charlotte’s first electric streetcar. It became a local historic district in 1983 and 1992 and joined the National Register in 1987.
If you want Dilworth, budget for the highest per-foot price of the four intown neighborhoods, $492.93, on 56 sales at a $969,728 median with a 43-day median on market. Both rose from a year earlier: the median 6.86%, from about $907,475, and price per square foot 4.92%, from about $470.
Before you offer, I’d compare the house to its neighborhood’s price per square foot, not its median, because with 12 or 17 sales the middle sale can be a very different house. Then I’d check days on market and supply: a 97-day neighborhood and a 2.1-month one call for different offers.

Book a 15-minute call →What do Myers Park, Eastover and Cotswold cost?
These three are the established close-in neighborhoods here, southeast of Uptown Charlotte and within 6 road miles, all with medians above $1 million from July through September 2026 in Redfin’s data. You’ll pay the two highest prices per square foot of the 16 in Eastover and Myers Park.
Cotswold
Cotswold sits southeast of Uptown, 5.6 road miles and about 10.9 minutes with no traffic. Its namesake shopping center, Cotswold Village, covers 21 acres at Randolph Road and Sharon Amity Road and is anchored by a Harris Teeter grocery store, according to Connect CRE in October 2023.
Cotswold’s 29 sales came in at a $1,074,699 median, $384.32 a square foot and 74 median days on market. Its per-foot price reads 36.25% above a year earlier, from about $282, the biggest swing of the 16, which tells you this summer’s homes were a different mix.
Eastover
Eastover sits southeast of Uptown, 3.2 road miles and about 8.3 minutes with no traffic. It’s home to Mint Museum Randolph at 2730 Randolph Road, which the museum says opened in Eastover as North Carolina’s first art museum.
You’ll see the highest price per foot of the 16 in Eastover, $571.20, but on only 12 sales, a thin sample, at a $1,786,999 median with 78 median days on market. Price per square foot came in 4.47% below a year earlier, from about $598.
Myers Park
Myers Park sits south-southeast of Uptown, 3.1 road miles and about 8.2 minutes with no traffic. Its National Register nomination credits planners John Nolen, whose plan dates to 1911, and Earle Draper, and names Queens Road as its grand boulevard.
Myers Park carries the highest median of the 16, $1,984,050 on 60 sales, at $561.36 a square foot and 79 median days on market. Price per square foot rose 6.68%, from about $526 a year earlier. The median moved more, from about $1,650,000, because this summer’s sales were a different mix of homes, so the per-foot change is the better read on value.
What do Charlotte’s golf club neighborhoods cost?
Five of the 16 neighborhoods share their names with a golf club in South Charlotte: Raintree, Providence Country Club, Quail Hollow, Piper Glen Estates and Ballantyne Country Club. From July through September 2026 their medians ran from $379,894 to $1,517,075 in Redfin’s data. Club dues aren’t in any figure here, so ask each club for its terms.
Ballantyne Country Club, Providence Country Club and Piper Glen Estates are the three club communities at the city’s far south end, 27 to 29 minutes out. Our guide to country clubs near Charlotte compares the clubs themselves.
Raintree
Raintree sits south-southeast of Uptown, 11.4 road miles and about 20.9 minutes with no traffic. Raintree Country Club, established in 1971, has two 18-hole golf courses at 8600 Raintree Lane in ZIP 28277.
Raintree moves fastest of the 16: its 18 sales took a median 36 days, at a $379,894 median and $262.04 a square foot. Price per square foot slipped 1.38%, from about $266 a year earlier; the median moved much more, a sign of a different mix of homes sold. Redfin’s Raintree area may include a range of home types, so ask what each sale was.
Providence Country Club
Providence Country Club sits south-southeast of Uptown, 15.2 road miles and about 29.1 minutes with no traffic. The club’s own site calls it a McConnell Golf property with 14 tennis courts and says its course made the North Carolina Golf Panel’s Top 100 list in 2023.
On 31 sales, you’d have paid a $636,322 median and $261.29 a square foot, with 52 median days on market. Price per square foot came in 9.29% under a year earlier, from about $288, the largest per-foot drop of the 16, and the median 12.83% under, from about $730,000. With 4.7 months of supply, sellers weren’t calling the shots.
For why that median sits so far under the club’s own homes, see my Providence Country Club home price breakdown.
Quail Hollow
Quail Hollow sits south of Uptown, 9.3 road miles and about 18.5 minutes with no traffic, the closest of the five club neighborhoods. You’ll recognize the name from Quail Hollow Club, founded in 1959 and originally designed by George Cobb, according to the PGA of America.
Quail Hollow’s 22 sales ran a $674,811 median and $275.88 a square foot, with 54 median days on market. Supply was only 2.9 months, the second tightest of the 16, so be ready. Price per square foot was 5.46% below a year earlier, from about $292.
Piper Glen Estates
Piper Glen Estates puts you 14.0 road miles south of Uptown, about 29.1 minutes with no traffic. TPC Piper Glen opened in 1988 with an Arnold Palmer design, hosted the Home Depot Invitational from 1990 through 2001 and earned its Tournament Players Club designation in 1994.
With 14 sales, a thin sample, Piper Glen Estates posted a $1,479,335 median, $335.36 a square foot and 52 median days on market. Price per square foot rose 14.86%, from about $292 a year earlier; the median moved much more, from about $1,060,000, so lean on the per-foot number.
My Piper Glen Charlotte guide covers the HOA, the taxes and whether TPC membership comes with the house.
Ballantyne Country Club
Ballantyne Country Club sits south of Uptown, 16.9 road miles and about 27.2 minutes with no traffic. The club was established in 1996 in Charlotte and has an 18-hole championship course designed by Rees Jones.
Exactly 10 sales, the minimum to qualify, put the median at $1,517,075, the highest of the five club neighborhoods, with $348.32 a square foot and 56 median days on market. Price per square foot rose 8.07% from about $322 a year earlier. Read a 10-sale median loosely.
I broke out Ballantyne Country Club’s home prices, HOA dues and 2026 club fees in a separate guide.
What do Ballantyne East and Ballantyne West cost?
Ballantyne West and Ballantyne East are two Redfin neighborhoods in the Ballantyne area south of Uptown, about 25.1 minutes and 16.2 road miles away with no traffic, with $447,874 and $652,317 medians from July through September 2026. Ballantyne West’s 69 sales were the most of the 16.
Ballantyne’s own history page names The Bissell Companies as its principal developer. The Bowl at Ballantyne, a dining and shopping district at 15119 Bowl Street, had its grand opening in 2024.
Ballantyne West
Ballantyne West gives you the most sales to compare against, 69, at a $447,874 median and $244.21 a square foot, with 55 median days on market. The median came in 5.21% under a year earlier, from about $472,000, and price per square foot 4.81% under, from about $257.
Ballantyne East
Over in Ballantyne East, 22 sales landed at $265.38 a square foot and a $652,317 median, with a 42-day median on market, the second fastest of the 16. Price per square foot slipped 3.72%, from about $276, while the median fell further, from about $775,000, on the mix of homes sold.
For street-level detail, our best neighborhoods in Ballantyne guide profiles the communities inside these two areas, and the Ballantyne community page covers daily life.
Which Charlotte neighborhoods cost the least per square foot?
Highland Creek and Hickory Grove had the lowest prices per square foot of the 16 from July through September 2026 in Redfin’s data, $197.72 and $198.62. Hickory Grove also had the lowest median. They’re the value end of these 16, not of the whole city: other neighborhoods in Redfin’s Charlotte-area file with 10 or more sales sold for less per foot. Neither is in the south, and only two of the 16 are a longer drive from Uptown than Highland Creek.
Hickory Grove
Hickory Grove sits east of Uptown, 9.2 road miles and about 15.3 minutes with no traffic. Mecklenburg County’s Hickory Grove Recreation Center, at 6709 Pence Road, has a full-sized gym, a track, and soccer and baseball fields.
Hickory Grove is where your budget goes furthest on price: a $359,899 median, the lowest of the 16, on 31 sales, at $198.62 a square foot and 58 median days on market. Price per square foot rose 3.51% from about $192 a year earlier.
Highland Creek
Highland Creek sits north-northeast of Uptown, 16.3 road miles and about 28 minutes with no traffic. The Highland Creek Community Association lists an 18-hole championship course designed by Clifton, Ezell, and Clifton and four private swimming pool venues.
You’ll find the lowest price per foot of the 16 here, $197.72, on 68 sales at a $424,881 median and 48 median days on market. Price per square foot was 1.04% below a year earlier’s figure of about $200.
How do you choose between Charlotte neighborhoods?
Your choice mostly comes down to one trade in Redfin’s July through September 2026 data: minutes to Uptown against price per square foot. Dilworth, about 5.7 minutes out with no traffic, sold at $492.93 a square foot; Ballantyne West, about 25.1 minutes out, at $244.21. That’s roughly 19 more minutes each way for a square foot at about half the price.
Put that on a house. At each neighborhood’s median price per square foot, 2,500 square feet works out to about $1,232,000 in Dilworth and about $611,000 in Ballantyne West, a gap of about $622,000. That’s an illustration. If you’re in an Uptown office two days a week, the longer drive costs about 78 extra minutes a week with no traffic. Decide whether you’d rather have the room or the time.
The second trade is pace: NoDa’s 97-day median gives you time to negotiate, and Wilmore’s 2.1 months of supply doesn’t. Then come the things a table can’t measure.
The numbers narrow 16 neighborhoods to three or four; a rush-hour drive and a weekend walk do the rest. If you’re also weighing towns outside the city, our best places to move in Charlotte ranks the suburbs, and our Charlotte cost of living breakdown compares South Charlotte with the rest of the city.
What will property taxes cost in a Charlotte neighborhood?
Parcels inside Charlotte city limits share one combined base property tax rate: 0.7857 per $100 of assessed value for FY 2026-2027, according to Mecklenburg County’s 2026-2027 tax rate chart. That’s the county’s 0.4927 plus the city’s 0.2930, up from a combined 0.7668 the year before.
Two exceptions change the rate. Parcels in Charlotte’s extraterritorial jurisdiction (unincorporated) pay 0.6973, including police and fire. Parcels in one of the city’s special tax districts pay a surcharge; in District 6 (SouthPark) the combined rate is 0.8238. If you’re looking in Raintree, Providence Country Club, Piper Glen or Highland Creek, confirm the parcel is inside city limits.
As an illustration only, 0.7857 applied to each median sale price comes to about $2,828 a year in Hickory Grove, $3,519 in Ballantyne West, $7,619 in Dilworth and $15,589 in Myers Park. Your real bill uses the county’s assessed value instead.
Which schools serve these Charlotte neighborhoods?
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS, the public district for all of Mecklenburg County) assigns schools by home address, not by neighborhood name. The CMS website points its Find My School link to the Mecklenburg County GeoPortal, which shows an address’s assigned schools.
Check every address before you write an offer. For ratings, see our guide to the top schools in Charlotte, and for the south end of the city, our Ballantyne school zones guide.
